Last Iowa Post!
Hi All!
Well I'm back in Philly, safe and sound!
The last day of the conference was great, too. There was a panel discussion in the morning about fundraising and volunteer recruitment and retention. (Watch out, you potential volunteers out there!) And then I attended a workshop about using social media effectively. (Yes, we should all note the irony that I'm writing about that on our blog.) If y'all have any suggestions on how to make this blog better, let us know!
Okay, back to work everyone!
Have a good day,
Michelle

Michelle's Excellent Adventure in Iowa, Continued
Hi again folks!
Another great day in Iowa; I'm learning so much!
I attended workshops about special events, good retail practices, and incentivizing businesses to settle in your area.
I've only been at the CDC for four months now, so it's been a great experience to meet and hear from professionals who have been working in this field for so many years. Even though, best I can tell, I am one of the only participants from an urban area, a lot of what's been discussed can be thought of in terms of Frankford.
As always, please feel free to email me (mfeldman.fcdc@gmail.com) if you want to know more about what I've been doing & learning here in Des Moines!
I'm heading back to Philly tomorrow, but will post again before my plane takes off.
Best,
Michelle

The Frankford CDC @ the National Main Streets Conference!
Greetings from the National Main Streets conference (http://www.preservationnation.org/main-street/training/conference/2011-des-moines/) in Des Moines, Iowa!
It's been a great two days so far. I've gone to sessions about cultivating youth entrepreneurship as well as using arts and culture as a means for economic development. And, yesterday, I attended a roundtable session for veteran main street managers - people who have been doing the job for much longer than me! Hearing what they had to say was very valuable. I hope I'll be able to return to Philly and put all of these ideas to work.
I'll be posting from Iowa again, but please feel free to email (mfeldman.fcdc@gmail.com) with any specific questions!
Best,
Michelle

Join the Frankford CDC Youth Advisory Council!
The Frankford CDC wants to hear from high school and college students from Frankford, and throughout the City, about how we can go about revitalizing Frankford Avenue so it suits the needs of all.
We're looking for dedicated teens and young adults who want to roll up their sleeves and be a part of building a better Frankford to serve on our newly formed Youth Advisory Council. The Council will not only provide the CDC and other community groups with advice and feedback, but will shape and work on actual projects. This is a special opportunity for the youth of Frankford and Philadelphia to help make our neighborhood what they want it to be.
Please contact Tracy O'Drain or Michelle Feldman at 215-743-6580 with questions or to get involved. Or feel free to email us at todrain.fcdc@gmail.com or mfeldman.fcdc@gmail.com.
